NATURAL BEAUTY # 10!!!! ;-P

Hey Tan! It's Romney @CoarseDame from twitter! I finally had some time and really wanted to do this!!!

My story: I have had 2 traumatic hair losses in the past 4 years. Both were due to low maintenance with relaxers, I didn't have the money while I was in school to do them and the first mistake was letting someone do an out of the box relaxer my freshman year of college. I lost so much hair...I can't even explain it. I began wearing half wigs and braids until I finally went back home to my original hair dresser. She cut my hair wicked short, but it was for the best and had to be done. The second traumatic hair loss was nearly 2 years later, my hair had grown back I was doing relaxers in more a routing about once very 2 months, because financially that's all I could afford. Unfortunately after deciding to chop my hair down into a bob with bangs I had a hard time maintaining that and it began to fall off yet again! I was applying way too much heat on my hair and it broke off rather quickly. My hair was so uneven, I didn't know what to do! I finally saw the light and realized that this obviously was NOT for me anymore. At the time I was living in Chicago and I was able to locate someone (who is now a dear friend) that specializes in natural hair care and transitioning styles. Immediately we clicked and she cut off my damaged hair and put latchook weave in my hair. This was the beginning of my natural journey. I'm not sure if that was my BC but I surely think of it as one. I transitioned from Jan. 08 to May 09. I trimmed my relaxed hair in between and no longer have any left. I have been rockin my natural hair with pride since I've moved to Boston. I feel like a new me and I'm loving it. Recently I started a Meet Up group for naturals living in the Boston area and I also just launched my personal natural blog. I'm not really sure what the purpose of my blog is yet, I will be using it as an outlet for those who may have the same natural hair care questions as me! I just want to thank you for reading this, it means a lot to me.

Thank You hunn Glad u gave us your story!!!! ;-p Loved it!!!

If you do the Big Chop you can still look cute..... so don't let others discourage you like I was.... with comments such as

if you are a pretty girl.. which all of you are.. any length will look good on YOU!!

One woman that has inspired me a lot with her cute, short , curly cut is .......

NATURAL BEAUTY # 5!!!! ;-P

Hello Beautiful Ladies of YANTAN,

My name is Tywanna. Well thought I would take this opportunity to tell you I use to apply relaxers on my hair for years. It wasn't until I was pregnant with my daughter, when I decided to stop using any chemicals towards my hair. Since then, I have promoted to my freinds and family that natural is the only way to be. Also, letting my daughter know that there is nothing wrong with having beautiful curly hair and having the option to wear it straight without using chemicals. I have been without chemicals in my hair for five years and my hair has been so healthy ever since. So I am sending you some pics of me with my natural wavy/curly hair and on occasions I would were it straight.

I do my own hair by the way. Keep this information going because it is so beautiful being all natural!

The products I use: When I wear my hair curly is:Pantene Shampoo and Condtioner for Curly hair

Dr. Mircale Shampoo with Conditioner

Infusium 23 MoistureOlogie Leave in Conditioner

AMPRO Clear Ice Protien Gel (to keep my curls tamed)

When I decide to where hair straight I use:Shampoo and Conditioner above,Clairol Jazzing Hair Color Clear
Jazzing Clear Sulafane to enhance my natural color which gives my hair a gloss and maintians frizz Vitapointe from Clairol Vitapointe Creme Haridressing- Non-Greasy

Scab Hair or soo they call it...

Well... I was doing my hair today and I noticed that the front of my hair doesn't really curl that much but waves :( any who... I'm sure it will look nicer once it grows out and has weight on it..

I took a much closer look and i noticed it was a different texture then my whole head.. this lead me to research if any other naturals were experiencing the same thing...

OH yes they were...

Scab hair ...“scab hair” which is the new-grow hair that grows out after a perm. Scab hair is not like your true texture. It is drier, rougher, and possibly harder to manage. I also noticed that maybe I didn't cut out all the relaxer ... I ran my fingers across the length of my hair strands and felt little dips along the way.. Chemical damage... ( relaxer is still there hanging on) soo.. I might need to do a little front trim that definitely has relaxer on it.

here is what I felt on my strands up close above !!

and here is what my hair looks like with out chemical or heat ... complete virgin hair !!

WHAT IS YOUR HAIR TYPE, CHICA??!!

First Things First Ladies.. When you have made the decision to be done with the dreaded relaxer hair, you have to learn your own. There are many different textures of hair which requires special needs. Andre Walker, who has won numerous Emmys for his work on the Oprah Winfrey Show, has worked out this hair classification system. It should help you find out what hair type you have so your transition can move smoothly.

1.Type 1 Hair- Type 1 hair is straight with no discernible curl or wave pattern. This type of hair tends to get oily and is usually shiny.

Type 2 Hair- Type 2 hair is hair that has some soft waves, but little to no real curl. It doesn’t form rings, just waves. It typically is more coarse than Type 1 hair and will cling to the scalp in long “S” shaped waves.

Type 3 Hair- Type 3 hair has a more definite “S” pattern to it with the “S” being more tightly formed. It will typically be relatively soft and will have less shine than type 1 or 2 hair. It will straighten out or form ringlets when wet but will draw up into a curlier pattern when it dries. This hair type is typical of biracial (African and Caucasian mix) people and of Blacks of a more mixed heritage.

Type 4 Hair- Type 4 hair will have kinks and twists and possibly coils but does not form an “S” shape. It may be “L” shaped with bends in it. It may form tight coils or “O” shapes (not really the same as the “ringlets”formed by Type 3 hair. This type of hair generally doesn’t change shape much wet or dry. It can be wiry and usually is fragile. It tends to be drier than other hair types because the bends and twists not only provide points that are more fragile, they actually make it hard for the natural oil (sebum) produced by the scalp to reach the ends of the hair shaft. Because the cuticles do not lay flat on Type 4 hair, the hair tends to be less shiny than Types 1, 2 and 3 and people will often think natural Black hair is dry or dull looking. Most African-Americans have Type 4 hair, which is why this designation alone is not really super descriptive. It seems we are the ones most concerned with categorizing our hair and by this pretty crude system, most of us fall into basically the same category.

and if you are relaxed.. ( which we were)

Chemically Straightened Hair- Chemically Treated or Permed hair is a hair type we think we have to add. Perming the hair changes the natural structure of the hair creating its own hair type. It is going to be anywhere from a Type 2 to a Type 1 in terms of straightness (depending on the strength of the perm). In spite of the fact the hair shaft is slightly thinner due to the action of the perming chemicals, it might still be a relatively thick hair shaft. It will have more shine than natural hair because the cuticles lay more flat. But, it will tend to be dry.

This should help... So what type are you? I'm a 3 B 3C.. mixed in.. Tania is 3C all over ..soooo lucky.. post pics soon.
